The Purry Gates

It seems that I've reached Heaven, or its doorstep at any rate, And been winding round St Peter's ankles by the Pearly Gates, I've plucked the angels' harp-strings and made a merry sound, But it's plucking at my heartstrings that you are not around. So I think I'll sit and wait here, just outside the door, And as the souls come floating in, I'll tap them with my paw, And when you seek admittance, they'll rename this place - It will become Purradise, and these the Purry Gates!

She was first.

She jumped in through my basement apartment window 13 years ago, opening the door to 8 more stray cats being adopted.

Before there was Stewart Little, there was Rat Boy. He laid before Our Lady of Guadalupe and left us as Santa Caspurr.

For a moment I felt four arms holding me.

I don’t know where she went. I don’t remember her letting go.

He is holding me.Salty Fingers.
He has been gone for a long time. He left our home where it is hot outside. He was wearing a muzzle breathing hard like I do . . . did. I am breathing fine now. She left with Salty Fingers, but when she came home she was alone.

Salty Fingers is talking to me and Velvet is here. There are others--Patina, Deina, Houji, Kong. Peachie Pie is sitting on Salty Fingers’ head. I can understand everyone, even Salty Fingers. This is wonderful.

We miss you too. Don’t cry. You probably think you came home alone today too. It isn’t true. Now there are four more arms holding you.

Only an angel as delicate as a butterfly lifting into heaven on the drafts through a teepee's chimney, could carry the gentle spirit of Tom away to the saints above.

He came into my life as a palmful of fur. He cried to me to adopt him. He grew into a gentle, cuddly, cub bear. He was my son.

My only other son passed away in my arms. In this year of losses, this is the greatest loss of all. Chappy is the last of the original three mouseketeers. Chappy's story is told along with his brother's in Tobey's eulogy. The Chappy Man, known for so many personalities, like Chappy Monster, Chappy Maniac, Chappy Mandolin, is Chappy Angel.

Loopie was rescued from a crawl space in Detroit-Michigan and received his name from the manner in which he was brought into my world. He began life at two-days old, unable to move his back legs, and could fit comfortably in the palm of one hand. He grew into an enormous 19# lean, heathly, shorthair with all the character of a faithful dog. His favorite food was shrimp, favorite toy was coiled pipe cleaners, and favorite activity was dragging shirts and beach towels to the front door.
